3" Open Primary Belt Drive
Assembly

Before assembly it is recommended to have your engine and transmission in a working and running condition before installing a open primary belt drive on a Sportster® or Buell®.

Compress clutch and remove retaining ring.
Remove clutch nut (reverse thread) and sprocket nut.  Pull out complete chain drive assembly.

When using stock rotor,  press out sprocket. If your rotor does not have 8 holes 4 more must be drilled to use the 8 bolts supplied.

Test fit front belt pulley for proper spacing and shim.
Clearance from the engine case inner gasket surface should be 1.050 to the inside of the engine pulley retaining ring.  This should be checked  for proper shim before installing the inner primary.

* The teeth on the front pulley must be spaced outside of the inner primary when tightened *.

HD® Alternator - 8 Bolt - Rotor - Part # 32413-92A is currently available and is a option - $100.00

Before installing inner primary with gasket, lock tight the eight bolts and fasten to engine pulley.


Rotate pulleys to line up with spline shafts.
Make sure the inner primary has a tight seal before installing bolts.

After installing the inner primary bolts remove spark plugs and rotate engine to check for proper spacing. Engine must rotate freely.

*WARNING* Damage will result if proper spacing is not maintained.

Install belt and tighten pulleys.
Front Pulley - Use nut and washer supplied.
Important Rear Pulley nut supplied must be used with the factory concave washer. O ring supplied seals under the washer.

 
Add 16 oz. gear lube in hole located underneath shifter shaft.
****** Breather vent tube must be clear and open or removed prior to operation. ******
